Compare the Elixir of Darkvision and Black Water acrylic dice sets on look, readability, and pre-order timing so you can choose the right set for your table.
Quick answer
Choose the Elixir of Darkvision Acrylic Dice Set if you want a translucent, potion-like look with swirling tones; choose the Black Water Acrylic Dice Set if you prefer a solid black set with large, easy-to-read numerals. Both are 7-piece acrylic sets priced at USD 7.31 and ship in early September as pre-orders.
Look and feel: swirling translucence vs solid black
The Elixir of Darkvision set uses clear acrylic with striking tones swirling through it, giving each die a potion-bottle aesthetic. That translucence can catch light nicely, but the busy pattern may make numerals slightly harder to read at a glance compared to a solid color.
The Black Water set is solid black with large numerals. It prioritizes contrast and legibility over visual flair, which is helpful in dim rooms or for players who prefer minimal distraction during play.
Readability and table use
If quick number recognition matters—especially for new players or fast-paced sessions—the Black Water set’s large numerals on a dark background are a practical choice. The Elixir of Darkvision set’s swirling acrylic is more about aesthetic appeal; you may need decent lighting to read results comfortably.
Neither set includes special features like glow-in-the-dark or liquid cores; both are standard acrylic. The trade-off is purely between visual character and straightforward readability.
Pre-order timing and value
Both sets are pre-orders that ship in early September, so you won’t receive them immediately. Each is priced at USD 7.31 (compared to a catalog price of USD 11.99), making them an affordable way to add a themed set or a backup set to your collection.
Because both share the same price and shipping window, your decision comes down to which look suits your table better—or whether you want both for different characters or campaigns.
Key trade-offs
- Visual style vs readability: Elixir of Darkvision offers a swirling, translucent look; Black Water offers solid black with large numerals. If you often play in low light or want instant number recognition, Black Water is the safer pick. If you want dice that double as a visual accent, Elixir of Darkvision delivers.
- Pre-order shipping window: Both sets ship in early September. If you need dice immediately, neither is ready to ship now—consider an in-stock set instead. If you can wait, both offer the same timeline. Check the current date against early September to ensure the wait fits your campaign schedule.
- Price and value: Both are priced at USD 7.31 (catalog price USD 11.99). Since cost and shipping are equal, base your choice on which aesthetic and readability profile you prefer, or buy both for variety.
